Vertical Labret piercing; My experience

Good morning!

I had been a while since I’ve made any new body modification, not counting getting my ears re-pierced in end of September last year. I had first seen it on one of my coworker’s friend, and had been obsessing over it for quite some months now.. so I decided to give it a go and have it done in my vacation week from work!

Disclaimer; I am of course not a medical expert nor piercer, I am simply sharing with you my experience and story. Make your own research or ask your piercer if you have any questions regarding this.

As I’m writing this, i’m on day 10 after getting it pierced.When this will post, I will be on day 17; Healing period being between 4-6weeks. I could have technically downsized my bar on day 9, but ended up having it done last Saturday (day 16).

Actual pierce; 6/10 pain scale
healing period;
2/10 pain scale

I had been meticulous and did my research, aswell as seen alot of tiktoks of other girls talking about their experiences. Ive heard multiple things, and I thought I was gonna be good pain-wise as I did got hole-punched for my dermal after all.. but heck, it hurted a LOT. The lip being a muscle, it was to be expected, and lasted just a minute.

Once it was done and the bar was in, I was barely feeling it already. It didn’t swole too badly, and I remained able to talk and eat just fine; it was just slightly painful to the touch when I rubbed my lips together. By day 3, it stopped hurting all together.

Same day, April 30th. Long bar to acomodate the swelling.

I seemed to have the right anatomy for this piercing, as of course you need a good chunck of meat to support the bar. I’ve seen people being uncomfortable for a while unable to drink or talk, and luckily it never felt like that for me. Though the longer bar made it feel wierder to drink out of cans or without straw, bite into a sandwich or whatever, it wasn’t impossible for me to do so without being painful- just wierd with the bar poking in the way, i’m sure it’ll be way easier to bite and drink when the bar get shortened.

Another thing I saw was the trouble while kissing.. as of which I can’t compare as I don’t do any kissing 😆 (nor should you, until healing process is done).

May 16th, after switching it to a smaller bar

For me this piercing had more pros than cons; it’s not inside your mouth, so it’s easier on your teeth & gums while remaining close enough to give a similar effect. I just find it so gorgeous, especially paired with glasses & nose piercings. I also seen alot of people having problems with dry lips, but that’s another problem that I didn’t get; after the first week my lips felt normal and not too dry or anything- I have my full range of motion (including the tapping of my lips together that I also seen some ladies saying they couldn’t do).
