What keep you reading a book?

What keep you reading a book?

Morning ~

As we all know, DNFing a book that we aren’t enjoying is a great practice to have; and if you’re a mood reader, that’s something that you may have done plenty of!

For me personally, beginnings are a huge breaker in novels.. If I struggle to read it and i’m only at 30%, this is not good. This actually just recently happened – I attempted to read one of my arcs “Love sold separately” and I just… nah, to finally pick up “No one here is lonely” instead.

But what are things that keep us reading?

Most of the time, I like things that I can relate to; either to how I feel in the moment, or more in general to things i’ve had went through. If I feel sad, i’d probably pick up a book that seems sad by the synopsis; most probably something mental health related aswell. Sometimes, I’m just craving for that fluffy “teenage romance” where i’m hopeful for a happy ending [*aherm* we all need to dream, right?]

What wins me straight from the beggining and grarantee that i’ll keep reading is if I like and relate to the Main Character. I’m someone who value the characters so much more than the plot – because I mean.. you are stuck with them for the whole book 😂 it’s pretty rare for me that there’s character(s) that I truly despise as of now. I can usually picture myself doing the same things, depending on the MC’s age and events- like, you wouldn’t react the same in a state of shock than you would in your normal mood.

I also love when a book plays with my feeling. If you got me deep from the beginning, you’re doing really good! It’s kinda twisted, but I like my reads to be “spicey”.. if i’m unable to imagine stuff in my mind or if it’s just plain blend and not making me feel anything; you’re probably gonna get on the side line, i’m not invested at all in your story.

Books being written in diary format, or in the POV of the MC are my favorites! I feel like it adds so much more relativity to the novel.. I can really picture myself in the shoes on that character, and that’s what i’m in for! Of course, I’d still read books that are written in a third view, and can like them, but that may be a little harder … as that one feel more like we’re a god that sees everything rather than the one doing the action; and that’s not really how I like them, but there’s exceptions to everything!

What about you? ♡

  1. Right now the book is an easy and enjoyable read is a huge factor. I’ve DNFd a lot of books lately. Many because the topic is too heavy or writing being too detail-orientated for me to easily escape into it. This is really just due to my mental health and outside anxieties.

    1. Totally understandable! Mine has messed up my ability to cencentrate and imagine— so I tend to stay away from fantasies in general.

Oddly that’s in this type of situation that I go into the heavy stuff ahaha 🙈

Say something 💕
