When We Collided ~ Emery Lord ☆ Review

When We Collided ~ Emery Lord ☆ Review

Heey!

So I finally finished another book this month 😄  Be warned that I did included Jonah’s “situation” within my review, which wasn’t in the synopsis, but I wouldn’t really consider it a spoiler personally as you discover it’s within the first two chapters of his POV; however, I thought I shall give a fair warning, just in case!

Goodread’s page

5 / 5 stars

Representation; depression, bipolar disorder
Trigger warning; grief, mention of self-harm (scar on MC’s arm)

This is the first book where I can tell the family is really important and so loving.. Six siblings, three old and three younglings, where the older ones gives their best to raise the littles after their dad’s passing and mom going through a depression caused by grief. Each of the three older ones doing so much for the other three; even putting their own life on the side for their good. I’m definately feeling the siblings strong bond, even if it’s something i’ll never get to experience myself as a single child. I’d love to be part of this amazing family.

This book is the perfect summer read; the romance within it leaving me all bubbly lovey dovey feelings aswell as the urge to just be with my boyfriend to kiss and cuddle with him. Although Vivi had been through dark times herself, thus can understand what Jonah’s family is going through, she’s so uplifting and trying to get the best out of Jonah’s – attempting to let him feel/do something other than being a caretaker, and experiencing more like a real teenager should.

And then the story changed, suddently this wasn’t a romantic contemporary anymore. Much to my sadness as I was not prepared for it and I was wanting something so much better for both of them… I gotta say I was hoping for a “love cures all” romance (cliche, but kind of like it in a way?)

This ending was about getting help, and realize how you can deal with what you got.

    1. Thank you !
While some on goodreads found the romance was kind of “eh”, I personally loved it !

    1. Thank you ❤️
Darn! I bet it’s hard to find such a larger family in books, eh? I’m not sure if it’s just the ones I personally pick; but thinking of it, it’s the first i’ve read that went above 3 siblings..

  1. This book sounds wonderful and realistic?! I think I would’ve been disappointed too if it end where I thought it would . Great review Kristina!

  2. I love big families! I only have one sister, but grew up with tons of cousins and close family friends who felt like siblings. I think I actually had this on my want-too-read shelf and then took it off during a Down the TBR Hole. But maybe I’ll pick it up later if I’m in a contemporary mood.
The ending sounds good! Different to what we’re used to seeing in ya romance novels I believe.

    1. oh nooo ! ahaha gotta re-add it, now 😘
yes, definately. I was expecting a “his love cured all bipolar disorder” or something … not the heart-wrenched but good ending that we got instead.

Ah yes, I see ! Although dad’s family is huge.. my cousin and I were somewhat close when younger and all got lost after I moved around 10 years old. So that’s another thing I don’t really relate to 😅
