Which genres are the cosiest?

Which genres are the cosiest?

Good morning!

Although it’s still rather heavy & humid here where I am, I am already on the cosy vibe ๐Ÿ‚ย I just can’t wait for a little chilly, blanket & candles kinda nights. And that goes for books as for netflix shows and movies!

While I don’t really read by seasons, some genres are better for the mood givens by the season; for exemple Summer to me means more lightreads & romances. That doesn’t mean that it’s everything that i’m gonna read, but that’s usually how I build my seasonal TBRs.

Here’s the genre that have a cosier vibes to me:

  • Thrillers / Mysteries
  • Horror / Paranormal
  • True Crime

Those too, even if I don’t read them:

  • Classics
  • Historicals

I’m not sure what it is about them, but they all feels like THE genre to read in front of a fire in a big blanket with a cat or two on your lap! Ruth Ware’s novels especially feel comforting to me, in some way.

What genres speak cosiness to you?
Do you recommend any books in those genres?

  1. There’s something about cosying up under a big blanket on the sofa with a mystery novel that feels synonymous with autumn, particularly those along the lines of Miss Marple, Poirot, Sherlock Holmes etc. I’m not sure about true crime, but I think I can see where you’re coming from.

I’d also add fantasy to the mix of ‘cosy genres’ as well, particularly with the ‘cosy fantasy’ sub-genre which seems to be all the rage at the moment.

      1. Oh fair enough. Itโ€™s still quite new but the stories are more character-focused and the stakes are relatively low. Fantasy characters just live out their lives rather than go on huge adventures and take perilous risks.

        1. Ah! Iโ€™m happy to hear, that & magical realism I can do.. high fantasy is absolutely out the window ๐Ÿ˜‚ donโ€™t got the imaginative needed for it

  2. Oh this is such an interesting question! When I think cozy, I immediately think of a cute ya rom-com, to be honest ๐Ÿ˜‚ but I do love a good mystery and you’re so right, there’s something about this genre that feels like you need to have a cozy blanket AND a fireplace around ahah ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Ah thatโ€™s interresting! For me rom coms are more a summer thing, light and fluffy. Having your heart fluttering in the heat like a summer fling.

Say something ๐Ÿ’•
