Would I Co-Blog again? // Updated Co-blogging story

Heey!

Yet again, this wasn’t what I had originally planned for today – however, I’m not as far as I would’ve liked in The Death of Mrs Westaway yet to provide a review for it. Therefore, I decided to go over this instead!

Last year, I shared my story about My Co-blogging story ; and since it quite changed since then, I wanted to give it a little update!

If you’ve been a follower of mine for quite some time, you’d remember that at the beggining of our relationship, I had asked Alex to join me over here. The co-hosting went beautifully for a couples of months (maybe 3-4months), until he became too busy with college and work to continue blogging with me; where he kind of took a “indefinite” hiatus while I continued like normal.

First problem I encountered; Broking up
Technically it wasn’t “as bad” as it could’ve been as we did remained friends and are still talking; and he never posted anyway since I decided to go self-hosted. Removing him from being an Editor on this blog wasn’t that big of a deal — the hardest part has been removing all the contents he had made in the past few months.

In case you didn’t know, you can’t just remove someone’s access and keep the things as theirs; you can either tranfere all of theirs from another user, or delete all. Though if you delete all, it does remains on the website but the user’s name is now changed to a blank.

As i’m the only administrator on here, it’s automatically showing as mine still although the user is from a blank name. Which, to me, isn’t a good thing as I obviously isn’t the one who wrote it xd

“Start-up” problem No.1; Not entirely mine anymore
When I started this blog, although I had my pre-set days of posting, it happened that I went overboard and posted maybe four times a week instead of three. Maybe it was because a prompt of a meme or event didn’t ended up on one of my usual posting days, or maybe it was because the launch of the book/day given from a blog tour wasn’t lining up.

Now because he had 2 additional days while I kept my original 3 days a week.. My freedom of posting greatly diminished – as I shared my blog, and I don’t wanna post multiple times on a same day, I couldn’t do that anymore.

Although It was technically mine and he was a guest, and yes it was originally MY idea, my blog didn’t really felt like mine anymore, you know? It shifted from being “our” blog in my mind.. It will definately take me a while before it hits me that I can fully do anything I want with it again – I can spread my posting days again if I want to, I don’t need to solely remain on my given days.

“Start-up” problem No.2; No control over his posts
This is pretty much a given – When you invite someone over, things aren’t neccesarely as you’d want them done anymore. They might not be as careful as you with some things, their writting will differ, etc.

As i’m a pretty paranoid person, this sort of bothered me to be honest XD Specially picture-wise .. I refuse to use anything else than book covers that isn’t mine or something off Canva as I know it’s safe to use – just “in case”. While I had warned him, he wasn’t as mindful of this that I was … and so he uploaded some things off google for an anime post without putting any source whatsoever.

While the chance of anything happening was slim, I still wasn’t too pleased with having this in my medias. But for anyone outside the community who didn’t knew what could happen, it wasn’t that big of a deal in his mind. I admit I did the same back in the days when I was admin of some facebook page, and now that I know how hurtful it was in regards to if it was artworks, or even just some plain google images — I just learned and refuse to do it anymore.

With all that, although we did got a great experience, I shall keep this blog to myself now xd Ithink you need to do so much more research for inviting someone to co-host with you, and maybe it’d be even better to start a whole new blog with this other person rather then sharing your own space.

Have you ever co-hosted your blog before? Would you be interested in it?

  1. I’d never considered the impact of having to remove all of their posts. Depending on how long, and frequently, he was posting for that could be a lot of posts!

I’m with you on having control of the look, the feel etc and know that you’re solely responsible for the content of there’s any copyright issues.

Good luck and enjoy keeping it all to yourself!

    1. Honestly I didn’t considered that either .. I thought “delete all” would do just that – but no. There was, i think ~40 posts to delete. I only kept the only book review he made as I linked mine to his xd and I was like erh .. I don’t feel like editing that ahah.

      Thank you ! xx

  2. Glad that you’re the sole admin on this, and glad that you don’t have to worry about his posts showing up as yours, I hope moving forward your blog continues to be awesome and a source of fun for you

  3. Never thought about some of the issues involved with this. Interesting that you have to remove the posts but at least it sounds like it was a good experience while it lasted!

    1. Yeah it was!
Only thing is I should’ve thought more about the idea and not just whip it out and do it like I usually do 😂

  4. That does seem a bit of a hassle – you having to remove all his posts and everything, but hope it doesn’t prove much of a problem.
If I had to have a co-blogger, it would probably be for a more permanent one, and I’d have to rebrand and choose a new blog name, otherwise the co-blogger would have to be just a guest blogger.

    1. It was a hassle.. but as it wasn’t for as long, it thankfully maybe only took me like an hour or two XD
Well, see … I didn’t had a breakup in mind – I thought that would’ve stayed. but yes – it looks so much better this way. maybe not really need to rebrand the whole thing, but i’d say keeping both if you really wanna go for it. Yours that remains your own, and then the joined one; that way you don’t lose what you worked so hard to build, and if anything happens, the other can always be deleted & your posts “rescheduled” onto the first one.

  5. I’ve never really thought about having a co-blogger before. I’ve thought about applying for co-blogging roles before, but then I’ve thought “but what about my own blog?!” and not done anything about it.
This is really interesting!! Thanks for sharing.

    1. No problem! that’s part of why I wanteed to share, ahah :p

Well, I mean, if you want the “extra” commitment, you can always rock both blogs! Yours on a more regular basis, of course, and then the other once a week/month/wtv.
