Best workplace for trichotillomaniac?
Good morning!
As with most of us lately, especially as i’m closer than ever into my 30s, i’ve started to give more thoughts into what i’d wanna do with my life.
Along with skin picking disorder, I also have something called trichotillomania. Which is the action of plucking your own hair; anywhere on your body, but most commonly scalp, eyebrows & eyelashes.
I had just realize I had been having trichotillomania this year (my fight with trichotillomania), as i’ve started having bald spot on the left side of my head, moving upward.
But actually, it’s something that I had been living with for as much as 9years now! I’ve read that it’s not uncommon for people with this disorder to pluck their pet’s fur aswell, which is something I had been doing since my boy was a baby.. which ofcourse I had been on the fence of talking about it, as the goal isn’t to cause any harm. My dachshunds has a condition where the fur gets stuck in their skin, so scratching it actually release the hair- and with alopecia being common in the breed, some areas it gets out by just gently pulling on it.
There’s many reason why one might pull hair; I generally do it on automatic when i’m reading at night- or when I can’t fall asleep. So that got me thinking.. wait a minute, what if I benefit off of this to find what I wanna do with my life ?
Might sounds crazy but hear me out: it’s something I enjoy doing, evidently, and it soothes me. Hidden benefit, maybe if I do it all day everyday, I wouldn’t pull on my own as much anymore.
The one thing I found that I’d love would me dermatologist a la pimple popper; the problem however being how you need the many years of medicine, plus hours of work in different department, PLUS the specificity of dermato itself. Even bigger problem that I don’t have all the qualifications to do a medicine course..
I then thought of cosmetology, more precisely the waxing/removal of body hair, maybe doing the eyebrows.. but I don’t really know where to go AND how much there’s a need where I live.
What do you think, could I exploit this to find what i’d love as a career?
Do you have other areas where it might work?
