Do you use the Categories of your blog?
Hello!
This one is a little wierd for me to formulate in a “short manner”, but basically what I wanna know is this;
Other than only using the categories to “shove” your posts into when writting them, do you actually go back on your blog and use them?
As we’ve talked more about that the last time we’ve talked about categories (on how many was too much), where I mentionned that I liked having one for mostly everything *in case* someone has been wanting to check for that particular thing.. That’s actually something that I do.
That’s also related to the “Have I posted that before” anxiety where I wanna go back and search my blog for something similar, or even on relatively the same topic so I can easily link them up when writing a post. The main reason why I wanted to have all my categories accessible somewhere on my blog, Instead of going through the pages “normally” to find what I vaguely remember having wrote about before — I just search my categories into that one where it should’ve been put in, and if I did, I find it in a minute or two.
That’s one of my rituals that I do quite often – if not everytime that i’m writing / thinking on what to write.. so i’ve been curious as to if other bloggers were doing the same thing too or if i’m just the odd one out there 😆
Additionally, another question; If that’s not something that applies to you. Is there blogs that you visit for maybe a particular topic, or you bloghopped onto this post and wanna get more of that specific topic… Is the categories something that you use on someone else blog, if not on your own?
I tend to go very broad with my blog categories – I generally just have ‘books’, ‘writing’ and ‘lifestyle’. I don’t have many posts on my new blog yet, but I feel like I should probably expand them when I have more posts so people can find things more easily.
I don’t usually use the categories on other people’s blogs though, I usually just browse their latest posts. I think they can be useful though, and I imagine a lot of people check them out when they find a new blog to find posts that interest them.
yeah.. i’m on the total opposite side of that spectrum 😂 I wanted to have a category for EVERYTHING … I shortened it by a bit but I feel like it should be enough now. It’s totally up to you, though !
Yeah I do the same.. I think I did a couple time? like when looking for meme prompts or mental health talks.
I never had to think about categories in Blogger, so I’m just discovering the pleasures of having them. Right now I’m trying not to go overboard with categories, so I’m limiting myself to either very specific ones, like the target audience for the books I review, OR super broad ones like “features” for any and all meme posts that I have. I promised myself I will not have more than 15 categories and hopefully I’ll be able to keep that promise lol
Hahaha goodluck with that 😅 I shrinked mine around 10-12.. which is alot for some but i like it.
Have fun! Xx
I like a category, I have my drop downs with links to my main genres and it helps with my related posts. I probably have far too many!
Same 😂 I settled for 12; can’t shrunk it down any more! (Well- actually, maybe just one more, as I don’t really need the « conversation posts », But thats it!)
After I reorganised my categories I did it in a way that meant my content was…easier to sift through if someone was after something specific. Some posts overlap in categories but I also use my categories and specific tags a lot, when I’m checking up on certain posts/series or reformatting. It’s definitely something I’ve streamlined right back down to having as few as needed and refocusing my attention on using tags for more specific things. So like my Imagine posts are in the books category but I can easily find them because they’re all tagged with “imagine”. I’ve found using categories and tags has helped a lot but I also have a page on my blog dedicated to highlighting specific features of mine and upcoming ones in case anyone’s curious xD
Yeah, that’s something that I do now specially for the memes.. while only having the one category, I tag the specific meme. I somehow still choose to use the categories for some reasons 🤣 one of the times I dif was for one of my « blogging with anxiety ».
