End-of-year Book ask game

End-of-year Book ask game

Good morning!

I found this one through tumblr, made my @BookOfmirth, and I wanted to use it to answer it all in one post rather than answer them through asks giving me only certain numbers 😅

I do prefer this one compared to the other ones i’ve seen floating around, as the questions does fit better than the other ones i’ve seen — the lot of them asking fantasy-related questions alot and well… I don’t do fantasy.

Because i’m a forgetful person, i’m gonna look through my goodread account aswell as my challenges wrap-up to help me answer all of thoses 😅

1. How many books did you read this year?

I read a total of 29 books so far! Compared to the 25 of last year.

2. Did you reread anything? What?

I sadly didn’t have any reread this year! despite being SO tempted to do it, it was one of thoses things I always pushed off..

3. What were your top five books of the year?

That’s a hard one.. Let’s say- The upside of falling, Last chance books, We can’t keep meeting like this, First in & I killed Zoe Spanos.

4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?

Yes, Rachel Lynn Solomon would be one! I read both Our year of maybe aswell as We can’t keep meeting like this from her this year, and I also recently bought Today tonight tomorrow.

5. What genre did you read the most of?

Definately YA.. and romance. Though I read quite alot of thriller too- you know, the regulars for me 😅

6. Was there anything you meant to read, but never got to?

Oh yesh, There’s still so many books on my shelves 🤣 but not one in particular, the only set list that I have would be my Winter Tbr.

7. What was your average Goodreads rating? Does it seem accurate?

Yee, it does seems accurate- Before seeing that My year in books 2021 was indeed out, I would’ve guessed 4something.

8. Did you meet any of your reading goals? Which ones?

I did finished my Goodread goal, #AudiobookChallenge2021 aswell as #BeatTheBacklist2021! AS you can see in my Reading challenge wrap up post 🙂

9. Did you get into any new genres?

The only one that isn’t really what I usually read was an anthology of true crime cold cases; collected and published by one of my favorite true crime youtuber.

10. What was your favorite new release of the year?

Oof- I only read 7 new releases this year, and most of them were in my top 5 of question earlier.. 😅 One last stop was also really good too!

11. What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read?

Definately I killed Zoe Spanos, I’d say!

12. Any books that disappointed you?

Sadly the French Quebec books that I read nowadays aren’t as fantastic as they seemed to be growing up.. This year this has been On peut-tu rester amis?

13. What were your least favorite books of the year?

A second one that fell flat for me has been If you’re out there.. I just expected so much more than this?

14. What books do you want to finish before the year is over?

I just wanna finish my current read, honestly, i’d be happy 😅 Which is Christmas at Cockleberry Bay

15. Did you read any books that were nominated for or won awards this year (Booker, Women’s Prize, National Book Award, Pulitzer, Hugo, etc.)? What did you think of them?

I- honestly can’t tell 🤭 I do live under a rock.. never knowing what’s new released and all that..

16. What is the most over-hyped book you read this year?

The midnight Library; and I gotta say even if I found it so much more harsh in the begining, I’m one of those readers who did enjoyed it.

17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?

I’m 95% sure there is.. but I don’t remember which one(s) in particular ahah woops.

18. How many books did you buy?

Okay let’s see: I did four book haul posts this year (1, 2, 3, 4), plus the last haul I posted on insta.. Making it 23 books bought this year.

19. Did you use your library?

I did!! Though only the app version, through Libby. I’ve loaned 2 ebooks & 2audiobooks- I concentrated more on reading the ones I had on my shelves this year, it seems.

20. What was your most anticipated release? Did it meet your expectations?

I don’t often have anticipated releases.. but I was REALLY hyped for the Comfort book, having read all the other non-fiction books by Matt Haig. I rated it 5 stars, it was pretty good!

21. Did you participate in or watch any booklr, booktube, or book twitter drama?

Not sure if it’s because of my tad-wierd timezone or what, but I always arrive after-the-fact and miss all the drama 🤣 I’d just spot a few tweets talking about the drama, so I know I’d miss something, but that’s it.

22. What’s the longest book you read?

Apparently it had been Almost Adults @ 476 pages.

23. What’s the fastest time it took you to read a book?

Euuh.. I am a slow reader, so ithink it should be around a week for a novel book? Though if it’s poetry or anthology I can read it in a few days.

25. Did you DNF anything? Why?

Though I’d wanted to for some of them.. I didn’t this year!

26. What reading goals do you have for next year?

So far, I only know my Goodread one. Which would be set to read 30books.

Did you get into any new genres? DNfed anything?
