How reading should make you feel
I just finished reading “The upside of falling”, and my heart is exploding in love, i’m happy.
There’s just something about reading YA that’s making everything so much more hopeful for me. Despise needing to remind myself constantly that i’m 26 now and no longer a teenager, there’s just this feeling of freedom in thoses books — like anything is possible. I can remind myself that i’m not too old for love, nor for that kind of freedom, that my life had just started.
This is why it’s important to know your kind of books; it’s no use to follow the peer pressure saying how “We’re too old for YA”, or avoid the books everyone is frowning upon — or even on the other hand, go for all the hyped books when we know it’s not our thing. Books are meant to be a way for us to escape, maybe even understand a few things, it’s not meant to be a chore.
Especially with being a book blogger, which so much of our time resolve around books: talking about them, reading them.. it feels like so much of a waste of time to not read whatever you want to read because you’re scared of how the others in the community would react on it. Although iknow I should do better in that area, because I have a bit of an internal fight when I try to pick middle-grade books.. when they’re great! Iknow a lot of my older peers in this community love them and talk about them.
Now ofcourse; we’re all different. Coming from different backgrounds and having different tastes.. that’s absolutely fine! I know a few of us for whom YA isn’t for them anymore, it doesn’t spark joy for them; However, this doesn’t mean that it cannot spark joy for you.
Talking of sparking joy; another thing that I need to remind myself of, and i’m sure so does many of us does too, it’s okay to DNF a book if it doesn’t spark joy! You can put it back on the shelf for later.. or not! and that’s okay, there so little time to read all the books out there that we shouldn’t feel guilty to do that.
This is your reminder that it’s okay to DNF books, and that you can always change your mind and edit the kind of books you wanna read — as long as it sparks joy to you ❤️

I completely agree! I get so frustrated when people say that YA is childish or Romance doesn’t have nay depth because even if they don’t (I completely disagree tho), if reading it makes you happy, it doesn’t matter!
Great post!
Thank you!! ❤️
Imean- sure, they might seem childish for them, but it doesn’t mean that it is you know 😅 people really should start saying how okay it might not be for them, BUT it doesn’t mean that the genre is X,Y,Z. YA also seems to be more diverse & inclusive (mainly because even if it’s « adult », somehow it always get shoved in YA anyway? Specially if written my a woman in fantasy?)
