Should late 2020 books count in #BeatTheBacklist?
Okay, okay — I know we had the talk already about if short stories, graphic novels & poetry should count towards your yearly reading goal (or your goodread’s challenge) before .. as of which- yes! They absolutely do! Reading is still reading no matter the format.
But what about late-published 2020 novels in challenge like #BeatTheBacklist??
If we wanna be all technical, the point of this challenge is to read books published prior of the current year we’re in, Considering we are now in 2021, this means everything published on/before December 2020.
The rule seems simple enough, eh? Well… not for me 😬 Although I had been counting them (except my first book finished as it had been started in 2020.. as stated it needs to have been read in 2021), I still feel guilty in a way?
The more the months goes on, the more I care less about that — but while we were still in January/February.. it still kinda felt like cheating, because while it was published last year.. a book released in December or even October is in reality only a couple months old. You know wha I mean?
- Have this ever been something that “bothered” you aswell? Or am I the only one to really think about that?
- What is your take on that?

Yes. They were published before the current year and are thus backlist titles.
My brain knows that- and I count them in too, but sometimes it mess me up how in reality it’s only a few months old you know 😅
Guess that shows how much time something « new released » can pass for a backlist title 🤔
