The code for love and heartbreak ~ Jillian Cantor ☆ Review

Good morning, my people!

I’ve done it !! I finished reading my 5th novel of the month 😄 This one was also on my Winter TBR, I have now only one more book to read in order to complete it.

I suspect Emma to be on the autism spectrum, though it’s not confirmed anywhere; with her being so hyperfocused on math, claiming she understand it more than humans. There’s also this thing where she keep thinking if what she had said was the right thing to do or not all throughout the book.

I really liked the idea of coding a mathematical approach of who should be the right one for you; with all the dating websites collecting not-so-good experiences nowadays, it doesn’t actually feel too far-fetched. At first, I’d thought Emma & her bestfriend George would match together, being co-presidents of the coding club and all that.. however as their older siblings are in a relationship, this would’ve felt odd and out of place to me. Then we met Sam from their club, who instantly got on Emma’s side for the project; he was being simply adorable towards her, and for the first time she feels something for someone.

Within the year her sister spent away at school, I enjoyed seeing her growth; going from only being with her sister & sister’s friends, she made her own friends out of coding club, and even deepened up her existing relationship with George. While still not being interrested in dating, I understand how she feels towards two of her friends getting matched together.. either because she had underlying feelings for George that she doesn’t wanna admit to herself, or simply because it does feels like you’re a bit lonely again- everyone but yourself going on dates with each other.

The last moments of the book after the coding competition left me tearful- I felt all of Emma’s pain and harshness toward herself.. but the ending is what broke me in tears. I do am a sucker for happy ending, and love wining in the end; realizing what all that even is.

« To just feel something like that.. something more intense than you’ve ever felt before. So intense that it would make you dumb and crazy. And happy. »

« Everything can’t be solved with an equation, Em. If you feel something.. just let yourself feel it, okay? »
