The Silver Thread
As I finally caved and got Netflix back, I got to watch the second movie of « To all the boys I’ve Loved Before » serie; PS I still love you. Now, I haven’t read the book – but one specific moment made a pang in my stomach; In french, they were making allusion to a “Silver Thread” linking two people together – forever, no matter what happens.
Here’s the quote from the book;
“There’s a Korean word my grandma taught me. It’s called jung. It’s the connection between two people that can’t be severed, even when love turns to hate. You still have those old feelings for them; you can’t ever completely shake them loose of you; you will always have tenderness in your heart for them.”
― P.S. I Still Love You
Sometimes we can feel it, and other times we don’t.
One of my only real life friend has been by my side for more than 20years now – I don’t even remember how we met 😅 She just seem to always had been in my life. Our relationship grew stronger and eventually she became my bestfriend as we grew up; our relationship grew through her hard time with bullying, a move to a town 3hrs ago, up to when I became sick with my mental health hitting rock bottom. We’re basically stuck with one another now, ahah 👀
Fun fact; my grandmother told us that both of our grand-dads were friends back in the days too, just like us now.
While that one has grown to be a part of myself that I can’t think what i’d do without her, there’s another one where I just instantly felt it. Which may feel like the wierdest as it’s not with another peer.
When I got Kafei I was in a really bad shape of mind.. I was struggling and I couldn’t go anywhere without my dog – of course he stood by me as I got better with therapy and all that. However, when I got his sister Sheik, the “overload” of love that I was giving him kind of balanced out between both of them. And I just knew that our three souls just belongs together.
I’d love for more novels to exploits this more and make it a part of the stories- wether the characters knows it or not. Of course not only for romantic relationships, but platonic too!
I have a thing for characters being strongly knit together in one way or another.. think of the reincarnation of the 3 triforce pieces in The Legend of Zelda (Link & Zelda in this instance.. nevermind Ganondorf) or the vampires silvering with one another or even a human (!!) in Josie Jaffrey’s Sovereign serie.
What do you think?
Any other stories with characters being so tightly involved with one another?
