When has horror went too far?

When has horror went too far?

Generally speaking, horror usually involve some kind of gore – as of which isn’t my favorite but I don’t mind it too much. On the exception of suicide attempt, where I get triggered as per my suicide idealisation i’m fighting. It always drive me nuts to have that used way too often as cliffhangers

However, we all have our limits for what we can take.

The first part of the finale of my Quebec horror serie I had been devouring finally launched, which.. idk how I feel about it right now. Now that the demon has been made, there has been a load of useless killing, which I find pretty meh. Paranormal horror had always been my favorite.

Throughout the serie, we had been accustomized to cat deaths, as that particular demon hated them. It never went into full detail, but we had saw a few of them – having already passed.

This time, a demon cat (think in the Hills House episode-like) got seen eating his mother.. now that almost pushed me to drop the book, it had flied over my boundary and I would’ve had appreciated a warning before falling upon the scene 😳

Trigger or content warning has been making waves again, some authors of which don’t quite understand the reason behind it because life doesn’t come with a label. Some claiming it could be deduced by the synopsis – to which I say not always. Nothing had warned me of this extend going to far, as it hasn’t descalated that drastically in the first 5 novels.

As for everything, ithink there’s a line of reasonable, as of which it got definately pushed way further than it shouldve been. If the serie had always been that gory to begin with, that would’ve been different as I would’ve had signed up for it; but it wasn’t. The start had been very paranormal focusing on mysterious deaths to make the demon, ghost huntering.. only starting to come to gory on the second to last one (5th of 6).

Do you think horror can push it too far?
Have you ever fell on something clearly too far?

    1. While I don’t necessarely bother usually.. if it’s over the top for no reason, it doesn’t swing well with me. That scene completely irked me, and ithink the worst was there was no warning beforehand, no super gory scene before that could even tell me thats what we were doing 😬
Like yeah ok sure don’t pick something you know is gonna be gory if you dont like it (like the saw franchise per exemple) but this one had not been!

Say something 💕
