You say it first ~ Katie Cotugno ☆ Review

Good morning,

With everything going on in the past weeks, this book seemed to be the perfect one to read- as our female MC is everything for politics, aswell as working at “WeCount”; an association where they call people to remind them to register to go vote.

Trigger warning; death of a parent, suicide, alcoholism

I found the start to be soo long.. we got a bit of an introduction to both Meg & Colby, before finally getting to the phonecall that changed everything – making her feel bad enough to further break the rules and contact Colby again, aswell as giving him her personal number.

Though i’m scared of everyone and everything, strangers long-distance befriending each other through daily calls & txts is everything to me ❤️❤️ The way the novel is told in dual-POV makes everything even better- I do love to know both sides of the story & both’s feeling towards the other.

Meg is fierce and not ashamed to combat political views close to her; even if it’s just a joke — which in some cases, like rape culture or sexism, there is some things that you can’t have different views on.. and I love her for it 👏🏼 I also refuse to stay quiet when it matters.

Both of our MCs are facing uncertain future, struggling with difficult situations; the suicide of his father for Colby, and the divorce of her parents aswell as her mother falling into alcoholism for Meg. Both finding solace in each other; feeling like a stranger is the only thing in their respective world that won’t judge them, scared to admit it in “real life”.

Through the phone conversations, they develop feelings for each other, although being from two different world.. and 8hrs apart. They also find out, with the help of the other, what their life could actually looks like and what they want it to look like.

« If you actually do want to change things, if you actually think you can.. shouldn’t you, like.. go out there and change them? »

« For what it’s worth.. I don’t actually think it always has to be your sole responsability to make sure everything goes perfectly all the time »
