How I evolved as a book blogger ~ 7 years blogoversary! 🌸

Good morning!

A couple days ago now, I got that wordpress notification wishing me a happy blogoversary.. Can you believe i’ve been blogging for 7 YEARS already?! 😭 It feels like just yesterday that I decided that I was just gonna start blogging on WordPress, having having a Booklr (tumblr) for a year. I recall even wanting to backtrack shortly after! I left two weeks after coming back.. and here we are. 7 years after, still going strong albeit the numeros blogging slumps I’ve had over the years.

Then..

I was a 22 years old working at the sexshop when I started this blog.. In a rough patch, I could barely finish reading a whole book cover to cover. I even failed my reading goal of only 10 books! My mental health had hit rock bottom, and my concentration went out the window with it- I’m someone who can see images in my head while reading.. and that was gone!

It was devastating to me, reading felt so dull and like a chore.. but I got this love from my godmother, I refused to let it go. In this period, I had tried to read The night circus.. but alas like most book, but this one specifically as there’s so much different POVs, I had to stop reading halfway through as I was so confused I had no idea what went on anymore. I had abandoned so many books because of this reason..

Taking books pictures made me so mad! I couldn’t get it right, it looked wierd.. NEVER was I gonna start a bookstagram account in a million years.

Now..

I’m a 29 years old working at a Coffee shop, Been medicated for over a decade and my mental health is as great as ever! I no longer struggle to finish a book cover to cover- and is only 3 away from completing my Storygraph goal of 40 books!

Being confused is no longer a reason for my DNFs, which i’m working on giving more freely; the only genre i’m still struggling with it per say is fantasy- as I feel i’m not quite there yet.. but magical realism is definately working! Most of what I read is in english, my second language, I feel like I need to fight myself to still keep reading in french strong, as I tend to wanna read more english.. though french is definately easier on my brain.

My personal instagram had formed into a bookstagram! I’m now way better at taking book pictures; while not always on point, it’s not as maddening as it used to be for me. I can’t say that I always post regularly, but I’ll post a new book picture whenever i’m starting a book. Just like this blog, my instagram is not solely books, but everything that is me- diversified.

I’m still eternally grateful for all of my OG book friends, who encouraged me to keep going and coming back after I had given up. I Love all of you who had been interacted with me, former and new friends i’ve met along the way this past 7 years 🥰 Love that for myself that I had built from the ground up; reading more books year by year, being able to finally read in english, dabbing in new genres..

Reading my first blogoversary post, i’m now giggling at this one thing I had wrote: “This post is a bit late, but “Books and dachshunds” celebrated it’s first year on the 20th !! Never would I ever had imagined celebrating this blogoversary, though some bloggers celebrated their blog’s impressive 8years, This first year of mine is a huge step for me.” I’m still here 7 years later, reading it. Younger me would’ve never thought we’d be here!

Here’s to more years to come,
I love you all, blogging friends! xx
